BANJUL, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Gambian President Adama Barrow on Tuesday announced a four-year development plan to boost the country's economy.

"I tasked my government to draw up a new National Development Plan to provide greater clarity and focus for the government's actions, citizens' engagement and also for our development partners who are eager and stand ready to assist us," he said.

The plan that will be implemented in 2018 is inclusive, aiming to "deliver good governance and accountability, social cohesion and national reconciliation," Barrow said.

It is the first development plan introduced by the Barrow administration since Barrow took office one year ago.

He has blamed his predecessor Yahya Jammeh, who went into exile after losing an election, for mismanagement that has led to the West African state's debt of one billion U.S. dollars.
