        KATHMANDU, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Nepal will elect a new vice president on March 23, the Election Commission announced here on Wednesday.

        The date was set at a meeting of the Election Commission presided over by its Chairman Ayodhi Prasad Yadav, a spokesman from the commission said in a statement.

        The vice president should be elected within seven days of the election of the president in compliance with the Nepal's Constitution.

        President Bidya Devi Bhandari was re-elected for a second term on Tuesday.

        The new president was administered the oath of office at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in the Capital by the country's chief justice on Wednesday.

        Also on Wednesday, the country's election body made public a detail schedule for the vice-presidential election.

        A vice presidential contender will register his/her name on March 17 and the final candidates for the vice-presidential election will be made public on March 18, according to the commission.

        Nepal's parliamentarians will vote to pick the new vice president at the Federal Parliament from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 23, the commission said.
