BERLIN, March 15 (Xinhua) -- German public prosecutors on Thursday indicted a Syrian refugee for planning to kill at least 200 people with explosives, according to a statement on the official website of the Federal Prosecutors' Office.

The 20-year-old Syrian national, Yamen A., allegedly planned in Germany "an Islamist motivated attack" with explosives and has already begun with the preparation, the statement read.

According to the accused, he wanted to kill at least 200 people with his attack and in the midst of a large concentration of people to "fuel a climate of fear and uncertainty", the statement said.

Yamen A. has been dealing with jihadist ideas since the summer of 2017 and advocated the ideology of the "Islamic State". Against this backdrop, he decided in July 2017 at the latest to detonate an explosive device in Germany.

The Federal Prosecutors Office said, almost all of the components and chemicals he purchased to make explosive devices have been found, and the accused has been arrested and held in custody since October 2017.
