LUSAKA, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Zambia has deported 115 illegal immigrant following an massive clean-up exercise across the country, its immigration department said on Friday.

The deportation between June 29 and July 3 followed a series of clean-up exercises to rid the country of illegal immigrants, said Namati Nshinka, spokesperson of the immigration department.

Among those deported were 83 Tanzanians, 10 Burundians, five Ugandans and five Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) nationals, he added.

Others were three Somalis, eight Zimbabweans and a Kenyan national.

He added that the majority of those deported had been awaiting court appearances for various immigration offenses while some had completed serving prison sentences.

"We wish to advise foreign nationals who are already in Zambia and those intending to visit Zambia to ensure that they comply with the Immigration and Deportation Act, failure to which they will be arrested and prosecuted," he said in a statement.
