BRUSSELS, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The idea put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping on building a community with a shared future for mankind will provide the world with a new vision and opportunity to solve various crises, Belgian members of parliament (MPs) have said.

"China is willing to establish genuine cooperation with the rest of the world," MP Filip Dewinter said in a recent interview with Xinhua at the Belgian parliament.

Xi's proposal "will provide a new vision and opportunity to mutually resolve a range of crises affecting the world," he added.

"China is an important partner for the European Union, including Belgium, which has close economic and cultural ties with China," said the MP, who has visited China many times in recent years.

The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Xi with an aim to realize common development along and beyond the ancient Silk Road trade routes also presents "a fantastic opportunity for Europe," added Dewinter.

Noting that many European countries "were skeptical of this" in the past, he pointed out that "in reality, China is just demonstrating that it is willing to establish genuine cooperation with the rest of the world and that the Chinese are willing to create a common future with all countries."

Dewinter also spoke highly of China's reform and opening-up policy, which launched the Asian country's integration with the outside world 40 years ago, saying the policy has been a main driver of the deep changes in the Chinese society today.

Belgian Senator Anke Van Dermeersch shares the view. "Protecting our planet is easier said than done, and we are very pleased with the proposition put forward by Xi," she told Xinhua.

The senator, who has also made many trips to China in recent years, noted that there are still many Europeans "whose understanding of China remains at the very beginning of China's opening to the outside world."

"Frankly, at present, there are still many people in the West who are still looking at China with an outdated attitude," she said.

The senator vowed to help strengthen communication and understanding between China and the West and urge Westerners to portray China in an objective and positive light.
