Singapore stocks close 0.62 pct lower

SINGAPORE, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.62 percent or 22.23 points to close at 3,540.23.

A total of 1.41 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.26 billion Singapore dollars (about 942.69 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 252 to 174.

The STI index closed down 0.49 percent or 7.71 points to close at 3562.46 on Monday.
