MADRID, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Spanish police evacuated two high-speed "AVE" trains at Barcelona's Sants railway station on Wednesday morning after a false bomb alert was triggered.
The police confirmed that their special anti-explosives unit had been called to the station after an object that looked like an explosive device inside a suitcase was found at round 8 a.m. (0700 GMT).
Several platforms, including two where the high-speed trains arrive and depart were evacuated and closed.
The police said in a tweet posted about two hours later that services were returning to normal after specialists carried out necessary checks.
Madrid's Atocha Station was also evacuated at around the same time for a similar reason.
A witness told Xinhua that he had been waiting to go through security before traveling to Madrid when they were told to leave the building.
"A lot of police vans have turned up and as I was leaving the station, three vans arrived and a lot of police ran into the building and down the stairs to where the trains are," he said.
A total of 193 people lost their lives in the Atocha train bombings on March 11, 2004 after a series of bombs exploded on early morning commuter trains.
