CHICAGO, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Ford issued a safety compliance recall on Wednesday for some 3,500 units of 2019 Ford Ranger vehicles due to possible shifter interlock functionality.
This recall affects approximately 3,000 Ranger pick-ups in the United States and 500 in Canada.
The U.S. auto maker said that the PRNDL bezel wiring might interfere with the shifter interlock override in the affected vehicles, preventing the shifter from locking in the park position and allowing the driver to shift the transmission out of park with the vehicle off and without a foot on the brake pedal.
Ford said that it received no reports about any related accidents or injuries resulting from this condition.
All the affected vehicles were built at Ford's Michigan assembly plant, from June 4, 2018 to Jan. 9, 2019. Ford dealers will check all the vehicles and if such a problem is verified, the wiring will be relocated.
