CAIRO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Ministry of Military Production signed a memorandum of understanding with China's SSE company and Marathon International Limited to establish a factory to produce electric vehicle charging stations, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday on its facebook page.
The MoU comes as Egypt is working on setting up the infrastructure for electric vehicles in the country, it said.
The ministry is keen on "localization of the industry of electric vehicle charging stations and recycling the batteries services in its affiliated companies in line with the state's orientation to expand in the usage of the electric cars," the statement added.
According to the statement, the Egyptian government is changing public vehicles to work by electricity instead of traditional fuel.
The electric vehicles are considered a civilized technological leap in Egypt because they are less expensive, more secure and environment friendly as reducing the carbon emissions, it added.
Executive Director of SSE Pan Fei expressed his interest in cooperating with the Egyptian ministry in localizing the manufacture of the electric vehicle charging stations and recycling the expired batteries to be used for other purposes.
He added the companies of the Egypt's Military Production Ministry own advanced technological potentials, high-level trained workers and production lines that are similar to the international ones.
His company is ready for transferring its latest technology in this field to those companies to exports its products to the Arab and African countries through Egypt, Pan added.
Earlier in April, the ministry inked an agreement with China's Foton Motor to produce electric buses.
