In Iraqi city of Karbala, protests on Sunday night left 3 demonstrators killed and 12 people wounded.

BAGHDAD, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Three demonstrators were killed and 12 protesters and security forces members were wounded during demonstrations in the Iraqi city of Karbala, 110 km south of Baghdad, the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHEC) said on Monday.

According to a statement, IHEC and its monitoring teams have monitored the protests that took place in Karbala Sunday night, which led to a clash between security forces and demonstrators as protesters attempted to storm the Iranian consulate in the city.

Three demonstrators were killed by live bullets and 12 demonstrators and security forces were injured, IHEC said.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi Sunday night called for life to return to normal as protests continue to unrest Iraq, asking for roads, schools and universities to reopen.

He said in a statement that the threat to oil facilities and the closure of roads had cost Iraq billions of U.S. dollars.

Demonstrations are still ongoing in Baghdad and other cities in central and southern Iraq over comprehensive reform, corruption, improvement of public services and job opportunities since October 25.
